Choosing a project car

A simple thing to remember is that lighter cars need less power to cover the quarter in a given time. This means they cost less to make them go fast. That is why Toranas and the like are so popular for strip use.

Also have a look at the number of serious Hi-po Datsuns, Corollas and Mazdas at the strip. Many of these four cylinders run 10's in "street" form. While they may not be as desirable as larger cars, many people take classics and turn them into drag only cars, which more often than not, ruins the cars' character and appearance.

When planning a strip car consider the fact that small early jap cars are much cheaper to buy and a genuine 300 hp will easily push them into the 10's. There is also less panel work to do, and the vehicle is less strain on the tow car.
